After a much needed week back in the Pacific Northwest, TJ and Doug set their sights on Montana for two nights of racing; Friday at Gallatin Speedway in Belgrade and Saturday at Billings Motorsports Park in Billings. The duo spend a majority of the drive down from Edmonton on their iPad watching videos of the tracks, trying to get an idea of what to expect since neither of them had been to the tracks before. Sadly, after the 13 hour tow, Belgrade rained out so the team headed straight to Billings after a nice nap! Jeremy McCune graciously opened his home to the young men for the night and they want to offer a huge thank you for the great hospitality.
Saturday saw brighter skies and the #19 Custom Automotive Specialties powered, Harley Davidson of Edmonton Sprint car finally made its way to the clay after a few weeks off. The night had its difficulties, a main one being that the only crew member TJ had working with him was Doug. The pair work great together but as TJ put it, "It's definitely a struggle when there are only two crew members and one of them is also the driver! However, Doug is dedicated and smart and we were able to pull out a finish that we are really proud of." TJ continues, "on any night it is an accomplishment to roll the car into the trailer straight, I can't thank Doug enough for all that he brings to the team."
After making some changes from Hot Laps, the Kidsport of Edmonton, Maxim started 5th in the 2nd heat and finished 4th, which lined it up to start 14th in the main event. TJ and Doug came to the conclusion that the track would take rubber in the Feature, however, they ended up being slightly off on set up. As TJ said, "The track ended up slicking off pretty quickly which made it hard to move forward, so to finish ahead of where we started, in 8th place, feels great! It was a fun track to race on and I felt like we had some great speed, even with a set up that was slightly off."
The team will be back in action at one of TJ's favorite tracks this coming weekend, Electric City Speedway in Great Falls, MT. During TJ's last visit to the track he got his first ASCS regional career win and is confident that he can do it again! The boys hooked up with Glen Walker, an old friend of TJ's Dad, and will be staying at his place for the week, saving them the long tow back up to Edmonton. "The hospitality that has been shown to Doug and I on this trip has been really great and I could not be more appreciative! It's great to know that there are people out there who really care and are willing to show it." TJ goes on, "I'm very excited to get back to Great Falls, I love racing in Montana and can't wait to put on a great show for the fans again!"
TJ and Doug will spend the week prepping the car and exploring the area around Billings! As always, the team could not be out there doing what they love without the help from their great sponsors. We want to give a big shout out to Harley Davidson of Edmonton, Kidsport of Edmonton, Lisa's Ledgers, Customs Automotive Specialties, Alberta Elevator Service, Capital Gear, The Decal Shop, Pro-Lite Electric, Lesco Distributors, Hooker Harness, Butlerbuilt, Rod End Supply, Simpson, Performance Coatings, Astro Titanium and Kinsler Fuel Injections. We also want to thank Lisa Davies and Scotty Evans for their continued support and hospitality!
