Sacrifices Lead to Success
TJ Hartman Racing
May 19th, 2014 – Edmonton, AB Canada
Written By: Shelby Dawn

TJ’s third weekend out ended on a great note as he headed back across the border to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, with a new trophy to add to his collection. From TJ’s driving, to the set up, to the way that the team worked together, the whole weekend just seemed to mesh. Friday night the team missed the set up slightly and TJ battled a rough track to bring home the KidSport Edmonton #19 Maxim a 5th place finish after starting 6th.

The team went into the 2nd night with a good idea of what the track would be like. Scotty Evans and Doug Anderson worked hard at getting the Harley-Davidson of Edmonton car prepared and set up for what was going to be a dry slick racing surface. “Scotty is very good at not over-thinking things! With a dry slick track, it is very easy to make too many changes and go too far with the car. He kept it basic, and that gave me so much confidence heading into the feature.”

When all was said and done, TJ drove the Custom Automotive Specialties #19 from its 11th place starting spot to win the feature! In TJ’s words, “This weekend really reminded me of racing ¼ midgets. Scott and Doug had the car on a rail in that feature. Every lap the car was getting better and better.  I could maneuver the car wherever I wanted it to go.” After a weekend of success for  TJ Hartman Racing & the EBR Motorsports team, the only thing that was lost was a head light off of ‘Tank’, our pit cart! “I’m pretty sure this was the biggest disappointment for Doug this weekend!” laughs TJ! “Doug is such a good fit for me to have at the track. He keeps it fun, and being a driver himself, he is able to work with me really well on what we see on the race track. I cannot thank Doug, Scott, and Lisa enough for their hard work over the last few weeks here. It is truly amazing to come out of Montana with an ASCS Regional win.”

Each trip TJ makes to Great Falls reminds him just how much he loves to race in that area. As TJ said, “The town is just full of really great sprint car fans and they are awesome to run in front of. I have had some really good experiences racing here and I am glad that I was able to put on a show for such loyal fans. I really enjoyed the kids yelling “Pop a wheelie! Pop a wheelie!” while I was riding my bike down the front stretch during intermission. It makes it that much more enjoyable to know I was able to make a couple kids laugh.”

The sport of racing requires extreme sacrifice from all sides in order to make it work. It is an expensive, time consuming, and nerve-wracking sport, among other things. TJ continues, “Without the help and support of my family, I definitely would not be where I’m at today and that is something I will never forget as I continue to pursue my racing career. A regional ASCS win is a huge deal for my team and I. We all sacrifice and put 110% focus into supporting one thing and it’s very easy to forget who or what got you there in the first place.”

TJ’s next race will be at Castrol Raceway in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on the 31st of May. He will then be headed back to Washington on June 7th for his first race at Elma since 2012.

TJ ends the weekend, “I cannot express the smile on my face from every single text, phone call, comment, and message that I received. Having such a loyal and supportive fan base is such an amazing experience. I also want to give a huge shout out to all of the TJHR and EBR sponsors and partners for this season! Everyone plays a huge role in this whole operation.”
